PowerPrayer For Moving From VICTIM to VICTOR

According to Daisaku Ikeda, we summon the exact set of obstacles we need to springboard our lives to the next level of practice and happiness.
We will be better off for them!
We summoned these storms.
Realizing this takes our lives from Victim to Victory! This simple change in perspective brings incredible power to our Daimoku. When we are chanting we can address our lives and roar like the lions (Buddhas!) we are. What follows is a PowerPrayer I offer you to reclaim your life and move from Victim to Victor. As always, I offer you my writings from my heart, not as an official SGI representative, although I love the organization and encourage everyone to participate - if you are not yet a member please use this link to connect: sgi-usa.org

Read this before you chant Nam-myoho-renge-kyo

This PowerPrayer has been inspired by the Gosho Study from the August of 2013 Living Buddhism "The Three Obstacles and Four Devils" written in November 1277 to the youngest Ikegami brother, Munenega, after his brother had been disowned by his father for his faith in Nichiren Buddhism.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
President Ikeda's lecture from the August 2013
Living Buddhism on this Gosho includes these words:
"Though we speak of the "three obstacles and four devils" appearing, no one wishes to have to face adversity.
That is surely a natural human reaction.
But Nichiren says that
the appearance of the three obstacles and four devils
is a source of JOY.
How could that be?
It doesn't seem possible.
But it is, in fact,
by overcoming the steep hills and inclines of obstacles
we can forge our lives
and ascend the summit of Buddhahood,
where we can savor the sublime vista of
eternity, happiness, true self and purity."
He goes on to say:
"We need to "own" them (our obstacles) as something we ourselves have summoned up...we are in charge, we are the protagonists...the struggle against the three obstacles and four devils is indeed a great joy."
President Ikeda goes on to say:
"As Nichiren Daishonin writes: "When a tiger roars, gales blow; when a dragon intones, clouds gather" (The Workings of Brahma and Shakra," WND-1, 799) When we adopt this attitude ~ "I summoned this storm!~ our hearts will be filled with the bright sense of hope and purpose." (All quotes from the 2013 August Living Buddhism, pages 21, 22)
We Align with Buddhahood through Daimoku
"The air is filled with radio waves
of various frequencies.
While these are invisible,
a television set can collect them
and turn them into visible images.
The practice of chanting daimoku
(Nam-myoho-renge-kyo)
to the Gohonzon
aligns the rhythm of our own lives
with the world of Budhahood in the universe.
It "tunes" our lives, so to speak,
so that we can manifest
the power of Buddhahood in our very beings."
and
"Everything becomes a source of value,
everything is brought to live,
when we base ourselves on Daimoku.
The Daishonin teaches
that myo in Nam-myoho-renge-kyo
means "to revive, to return to life."
Nam-myoho-renge-kyo rejuvenates all knowledge;
it revitalizes our daily lives."
Daisaku Ikeda from Faith in Action p.118 in the Gongyo and Daimoku section.
And I have great news! Ben was officially accepted into the place that will herald the next positive phase of his life. This is a place that has a great track record of helping people who have illnesses like Ben's to learn to live their lives successfully, and happily...with purpose. You know I am dancing in joy. We will be driving him the 8 hours to this location sometime in the next few days. Nam-myoho-rnege-kyo!
PowerPrayer for Awakening Our Own Buddha Nature
I just finished a wonderful hour of studying
"The Heart of the Lotus Sutra" by Daisaku Ikeda.
(Available at sgi-usa.org - you can click on the portal to the right).
As a fellow SGI member and lover of this practice (not as an official representative of the SGI) I share my thoughts here with you:
"The Heart of the Lotus Sutra" is truly the story of our lives. In the Lotus Sutra, Shakyamuni reveals that he did not attain enlightenment in his present lifetime as so many people assume. (And as Shakyamuni said in earlier sutras) In the Lotus Sutra he reveals that he attained enlightenment in "beginningless time" and that we, as practitioners of Nichiren Buddhism also attained enlightenment in beginningless time, and are fulfilling our vow to come to this world and show everyone the path to happiness by using the example of our own lives, never being defeated, and overcoming every obstacle.
Once we are awakened to the fact that we are Buddhas equal to the original Buddha, we can embrace every challenge with fresh eyes, saying to ourselves
"Yes! I chose this challenge.
I chose this because I KNOW
that I can chant Nam-myoho-renge-kyo
and absolutely, without a doubt I can change this.
It is up to me.
I have the power to tap into the vast resources within,
as long as I stay focused on my mission for kosen-rufu."
Each of us can awaken every day with the ability to access the reality that we are Boddhisatvas of the Earth ~ Dancing in happiness ~ assured of our own power to overcome anything in our lives, through reading President Ikeda's words, chanting, refreshing our determination and knowing, absolutely knowing that we chose this existence to manifest our highest potential.
This might not be our first thought upon awakening - but we can access it in front of the Gohonzon every single morning!
What kind of PowerPrayer (thoughts in our minds while we are chanting) would be useful?
Let's look at a few of Sensei's quotes from "The Heart of the Lotus Sutra,"
"The Buddha's original state of life is identical with all people's original state of life. They could not be in any way different. Fundamentally, all people are Buddhas. The only difference is that the Buddha understands this while others are ignorant of it. " p. 153
When we realize that we are Buddhas from beginningless time "We can attain a state of eternal happiness as indestructible as a diamond~that is, the true aspect of the Buddha ~ in our lives." and that "No matter how heavy our burden of karma, through tapping our inner life force, we can revolutionize our existence." p. 163.
"It enables us to address the reality of our situations with a fresh, forward-looking spirit, always basing ourselves on life's "original moment."
Sensei goes on to quote Josei Toda who talks about how we all dwelt together as Buddhas of absolute happiness before making our vows to return to this world and lead others to happiness.
We are all here fulfilling our vow joyously together.
What problem could stop us?
Could financial difficulty stop us?...not unless we let it.
How about heartbreak, a karma many of us are challenging? I just started a bright new relationship but don't know what the future holds.  Every day I chip away at my karma right along with you. And every day I awaken refreshed...when I study, chant, encourage others and go to SGI meetings. We have such precious lives. People are depending on us to shine. We ARE the suns in our lives!
Awakening Our Own Buddha Nature!
Life!
Once again I greet you in front of the Gohonzon!
I appreciate one more day in this world of strife!
Once again I strive at every moment
to bring forth the world of Buddhahood within.
Right now I am raising my life condition!
I am determined to live in wisdom,
tapping the highest potential in my life.
I am determined to harmonize with my fellow humans
in a way that makes a difference.
I am determined to be all I can be,
and fulfill my vow for kosen-rufu!
(Happiness and respect for all of life -
the raising of the life-condition of ALL)
I am determined to forge ahead
with wisdom, happiness and composure.
May I live this day fully and happily,
and shine like the sun!
I am determined to_____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
